As you may already know, Apple recently had their debut into the smartwatch industry with the help of their great product, also known by the name of the Apple Watch. With a ton of features, but also a great looking design and the simplicity that Apple is world-famous for, the Apple Watch actually represents one of the best smartwatches available on the market, which is still underdeveloped at the moment.
Without further ado, we will talk about some of the most important aspects of the Apple Watch, some of them including its User Interface (UI), operating system, design, ease of use, integration with 3rd party apps and much more, as an attempt to give you a general idea about all the great features that this smartwatch has.
Design
I am personally a fan of round designs when it comes down to watches (yes, as most ‘dumb’ watches are usually round, and I am old-school), but I personally think that Apple did in fact manage to do quite a great job from the design point of view as well. As reports have indicated that Apple hired a lot of people in the fashion industry, the Apple Watch was obviously the result of a long debate about design played by both fashion experts, but also design experts at Apple such as Jonathan Ive.
With this in mind, the watch’s rectangular shape along with its sleek design manages to create a good fit for the wrist of people from all around the world. Additionally, the great idea of allowing the strap to be changed also allows users to add a personal touch to their Apple Watch. This factor along with the fact that the watch also comes in two different sizes mean that regardless of personal taste, people can work around towards finding a look that they will appreciate.
Operating system
Many Apple fans, but also tech experts from all around the world believed that the Apple Watch will carry a modified version of iOS, but it turns out that they were all wrong, as the Apple Watch carries its own OS, thus making sure that features are specifically designed for the smartwatch and that nothing goes wrong.
With this in mind, the operating system found on the Apple Watch can be described as easy to use thanks to the fact that users can use the touch screen display in a natural manner in order to do all sorts of things. Additionally, the fact that Apple has decided to embed something known as the Digital Crown makes zooming in/out and browsing the smartwatch a better experience from all the points of view. The OS that is being used also offers many of the normal features that people would expect from a smartwatch. The Apple Watch does a great job at showing notifications, checking out pictures, answering calls and getting reminders.
Additionally, the seamless integration of many great applications created by Apple turns the OS into a great platform that people can easily have a lot of fun with.
Fitness and Health
In the light of all the recent smartwatch announcements, it seems like it has become mandatory for all modern smartwatches to also offer some sort of fitness integration. With this factor in mind, the Apple Watch has a lot of great sensors built in, some of which are a heartbeat monitor and a proximity sensor, all with the hope of making the fitness integration seamless. Users will get access to a health app that will easily track their daily fitness activities and provide important information whenever needed, in order to further encourage users to fulfil their fitness goals and lead a healthy life.
When viewed from this point of view, the wide number of sensors and fitness features that the Apple Watch offers makes it a great fitness device as the device can also display the number of calories burned, stairs climbed, steps taken, current heartbeat and much more.
3rd party apps
Let’s be honest. This is a very important aspect of all modern smartwatches. As we know, Apple has always imposed a dictatorial regime when it came down to the amount of freedom device users would get, but this has faded with time.
Now, it seems like Apple has finally found a great way to integrate 3rd party apps, as users can receive notifications from most major iPhone applications available at this moment. Additionally, chances are that an Apple Watch app store with a couple of 3rd party apps may also be opened in the future, but we’ll have to wait to see for sure.
Conclusion
After a careful assessment of all the features that the Apple Watch provides, it is safe to say that while it represents a great device from most of the points of view, there are still features it’s missing (camera) and things that Apple needs to learn in order to become a leader on the smartwatch market.
Leaving this factor aside, I would personally rate the Apple Watch a 4/5 and say that the great features it offers can make it a very interesting piece to wear by just about any tech enthusiasts.
