Yet another great smartwatch that is available on the market place is known by the name of The Galaxy Gear 2 Neo. While it is somewhat more expensive when compared to other smartwatches out there, it also has a number of great features that make it better, although we can’t really decide which one is actually the best.
When compared to its predecessor, it is safe to say that the Galaxy Gear 2 Neo has a couple of new features which definitely make it better from all the points of view, as to be honest, the original Samsung smartwatch was simply capable of giving you some information about the notifications that you have received or how many steps you’ve taken. Well, we’re happy to say that things finally got a tad more serious with this device.
Design
Although it is not very different from other smartwatches from the design point of view, this model looks quite good actually. The device is also 20% lighter when compared to the original version, which can make quite a big difference. Other than this, it is a rectangular-square shaped watch which is also available in a couple of different colours.
When we consider the actual feel of the device, I personal found it to deserve 3.5/5 stars on the ‘premium feel’ scale, but I am personally quite hard to please when it comes down to how devices feel. This does come off as an advantage as other watches out there actually face great trouble when it comes down to pleasing customers from this point of view.
Not only is the Galaxy Gear 2 Neo sleeker, but the fact that it is not attached to the strap that it comes with allows people to freely decide how they would like their devices to look and to give them their own style, as having a personal, but also unique smartwatch is an important factor that many owners think about.
Features
Great features make a great watch! With this ‘quote’ in mind, the Galaxy Gear 2 Neo does come with a couple of traditional features, but also with some which actually make it a good device and which can’t really be seen on many of the competitors available on the market at this moment for various reasons.
IR Blaster
Samsung was one of the first companies to introduce IR blasters on their mobile phones, so why not do the same thing on a smartwatch? If you are unware in regards to what IR blasters actually are, then you’ll be happy to know that an IR blaster is basically the backbone of all remote controls available at this very moment. By using infrared, the Galaxy Gear 2 Neo is able to communicate with other devices and act like a remote control.
What’s even better is that it won’t do this with your TV only, as other appliances such as ACs, but also radios can work with the smartwatch’s IR blaster as well after it has been set up, which in my opinion, actually represents a great features that most smartwatch companies should consider.
Music Player
While there are a couple of smartwatches that feature music players, I personally believe that Samsung is one of the companies which actually does it will. As the smartwatch offers 4GB of memory in total, you can easily send out your favourite songs to it, which can later be listened to with the help of the tiny speaker that the watch has.
Speaking of that, it is safe to say that although we don’t really see great sound quality, it can be deemed as acceptable. If you are actually looking for high quality sound, then simply plug in some headphones to your device and that should do the trick in this instance.
Fitness
Some of the key features of this smartwatch reside in the fitness application that it offers. With this aspect in mind, after Samsung has introduced quite a number of sensors in the device, the galaxy gear 2 Neo can actually do a great job at fitness tracking.
Ranging from the steps you’ve taken, the time you’ve been working out, the calories burned, heartbeat and more, the device is quite accurate as a fitness tracker for people from all around the world.
Performance
In my opinion, the performance of a smartwatch is actually a key factor, as there’s simply no use to put a ton of great features in the case that a watch doesn’t work well. I’m happy to note that Samsung has observed this issue and offered the device a good processor and great RAM, all with the hope that it will offer acceptable performance until better models appear on the market.
Battery life
This is yet another important aspect to consider, as having your smartwatch lose its battery life while you’re in the middle of something can be an unpleasant experience from all the points of view. While its battery life can’t be really compared to that of the Pebble smartwatch, after a couple of extensive tests, we’ve figured out that this device can withstand around a day of use on a single charge, which is fine, although it could have been better.
Conclusion
To be honest, one of the few downsides of this smartwatch may be its price, but the truth is that it is indeed one of the best models, as good things don’t usually come very cheap. My personal recommendation would be to study the marketplace and check to see if you find a smartwatch that is more attractive ad make a throughout comparison between the two in order to make the best choice. As in for the actual features and look of the device, my props go to Samsung and I can’t wait to see what they come up with next.
